CURRENT CONDITIONS: All campsites and fishing access areas are open. Park office is closed on Wednesdays due to staff shortage. Some algae bloom. Weather has been Rocky Mountain wonderful. Beautiful mornings and days with regular late afternoon showers. Greenery prevails. NO FIRE BAN.

CRAWFISH BOIL SATURDAY AUGUST 24 STARTS AT 1:30PM 1:30PM 1:30PM

ROAD CONSTRUCTION: Looks to be about 2/3 done. Although its being turned into a glorified dirt road, it is significantly better than the trailer destroying, alignment problem producing and generally destructive to your vehicle pot hole infested excuse for a road. It’s about time!!

11 MILE SPORTS, INC. 30 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SEASON. It’s time to celebrate and bite some heads and suck some tails as they say in New Orleans. Eleven Mile crawfish are not your average “mud bugs” as they are sometimes referred to. To be sure they are bottom feeders and eat whatever, they live in some seriously high altitude clean water. Not to brag but we have some New Orleans roots and 40 years of crawfish boiling experience here at the lake. With celebration in mind come see us on Saturdays in August about Noon to 2:00PM for an Eleven Mile Boil!! with all the fixins. Free and open to all while they last, one plate per person.

FISHING HAS NO BOUNDARIES: In the 30 years here we helped start the FHNB Colorado Springs chapter by donating the use of two Pontoons for their new program of taking disabled kids fishing. 11 Mile Marina hosted the event which grew to over 40 boats and outgrew the Eleven Mile State Park infrastructure a few years ago. Their annual event is now held at Pueblo State Park in September. The FHNB crew will be here on August 31 hosting the last crawfish boil with BBQ as a fundraiser for a very great organization. Live music with our old and dear friend Oakley who played at many a Pike tournament events which were an annual fundraiser for FHNB. Festivities start at Noon. Come one come all!

PIC # 4: Just minutes before boats had to be off the lake Larry pitches a tube just outside the breakwater and scores. Thirty years and it just keeps getting better. Very Thankful.

TROUT: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: Traditionally August can be a tough month. You know, the dog days of Summer. Weeds, poor water clarity, hot etc etc. This is looking to be one of the best Augusts we have ever seen. Lots of big fish being caught. Tube jigs seem to be the best attack but plenty of big ones on the troll, fly and bait. Times vary and the Full Moon effect was in play. Night fishing was hot with 10:45PM to 2:00AM being just great. Fish in pic # 2 was caught in dead stick calm and hot conditions in the afternoon. Go figure. As usual colors vary from day to day. We like to scent our tube jigs here. Illegal at Spinney. Stop in for latest info.

KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR TO POOR: A few being caught here and there. Try the Macks Wiggle Hootchie tipped with a Gulp maggot or corn ( just in) on back of a Dodger or Pop Gear. 15 to 40 feet out from North Shore in 50 to 60 feet of water.

NORTHERN PIKE: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: Good bite continues and getting better. Lots of medium size 28 to 31 inches. Bigger ones on the prowl but elusive. Try Spinner baits big Sticks and tube jigs. Rapala Husky Jerks always a good bet. Bite times vary and surprise you when you least expect it.

CRAWFISH: VERY GOOD: Most if not all big fish are just packed with crayfish. This is prime time season. Set traps at night with appropriate bait see full trap in morning. We have some great Pro Mar crab traps that we use and work really well. They hold a large number of the critters maximizing your night. Come taste our version of the most delicious crawfish in Colorado. See you Saturday.
