The Colorado Classic is one of the longest running ice fishing contests in Colorado. It is owned and run by 11 Mile Marina ( State Park Concession) It is intended to provide friendly competition for ice anglers. The payouts are based on total participation and are significant. The honor system is in place but 11 Mile Marina is diligent in enforcing all rules and regulations to keep the contest free from those who may choose to cheat. Polygraph tests are administered where needed and appropriate. We want all participants to know we are watching out for you. We want a safe and honest event and strive to that end.

CONTEST NOTES: This is a private event open to the general public and when you choose to enter you agree to abide by all the rules, regs and formats. The contest was first held 2003 as a single contest. It was a reaction to a Colorado disaster known as the Haymen Fire. In 2002 11 Mile Sports, Inc signed a contract with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to build out a Marina concession. Six days after the contract was signed the Haymen fire erupted near Lake George. Subsequently Denver Water completely drained Antero and drained Eleven Mile for the first time in history to approximately 50% capacity. The boat ramp was unusable. In an effort to survive 11 Mile Marina thought an ice fishing contest could help raise revenue. The first event was very successful so we decided to do another one which was also successful. Not being greedy but still fighting to survive the economic fallout of the fire we decided to try a third in March. Although not as popular as the previous it was still helpful. We then created an overall theme (The Colorado Classic Ice Fishing Tournament) and tied all three contests together with a points system with a championship final Grand Prize for the team with the highest point total.

As years went by the contest grew and grew. Always learning along the way we had an issue with the same top teams always in the big money in a big way. These are the best ice anglers in Colorado. But many folks were non too happy. Not sore losers mind you they just aren’t as committed as the super serious ice folk and just felt they didn’t stand a chance. So we came up with a Pro/Am format which has really matured and developed in the manner we were hoping. The best of the best compete separately while the Everyday Angler has a chance to win BIG money on the way to becoming a future Pro.

We also began a fundraising opportunity for Fishing Has No Boundaries/Colorado Springs which is just a great 501C3 organization dedicated to taking disabled kids and adults fishing. They host the contest awards ceremony bbq and with all three events it is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year. We also have put together an incredible line of sponsors with Toyota Dealers Association of Colorado Springs signing up last year adding the excitement of a potential winner of a new Tacoma. So if you want to have fun. Want to win some cash in addition to lots of great prizes while participating in a unique ice fishing tournament series where you can meet new friends and learn about the lake, sign up now. The tournament sold out all three contests last year in early January. You do not have to be in all three contests as each event stands alone. But in order to qualify for the Final Grand Prize and the Toyota you do have to be in all three events. If you have any questions contact Larry Falk/Tournament Director at elevenmile@hotmail.com

BIG FISH POT 104 TEAMS AT $25.00 EACH 100% PAYOUT $2,600.00 TEAM 48 SCHOON/GOVDEAU 6.71lbs The rule is if you win BFP and 1st Place a polygraph is automatic. Team 48 won EDA 1st for $1,325.00 (9.39lbs) Total cash prize $3,925.00. When you giveaway almost $10K we are diligent and vigilant in catching rule breakers and cheaters. The integrity of the event depends on those efforts. Every team should know we are out to protect everyone. As a team participant you are always a contest official and can report any alleged violations which are always fully investigated.

Polygraph Administered by Cross Point Polygraph in Colorado Springs on Friday, February 14, 2025 12:30PM. Only one team member is required to take the test. Lonny Schoon took the exam Lonny passed the exam answering truthfully on all questions. Did you drill holes before 7, did you use any kind of spawn sacs or illegal bait, did you cooperate with any other teams, Did you consume alcohol during contest hours. He answered yes to the question on alcohol. It was asked because we had concerns. We are adamant about rule #8 for many reasons and he admitted to violating the rule. Consequently the following action agreed to by the parties was taken by Larry Falk, Tournament Director. Team #48 was awarded the cash that they won for the contest. The team was disqualified from participating in Marina March Madness. The over 100 points earned are worthless and they are not available to compete for the Final Grand Prize or Toyota Tacoma. We believe that was a fair resolution. Rules are not made to be broken and this is all about liability of 11 Mile Sports, Inc. and all involved Sponsors. Since they passed all fishing/catching related questions it was fair to assess a reasonable penalty and put everyone on notice that drinking during contest hours is a NO NO.

ADDITIONAL ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS: A Pro Team was caught using illegal spawn sac. Details to follow soon after final assessment and ruling which will be sent to the violating Team.

CHEAT AND WE WILL CATCH YOU!!!
