ELEVEN MILE STATE PARK IS LOCATED IN THE SOUTH PARK NATIONAL HERITAGE AREA

MARINA STORE AND LAKE SPECIALISTS: Camping, Fishing Equipment, Flies, Lures, Bait, Clothing, Food, Snacks, Drinks, Ice Cream and official purveyors of Boars Head brand products. Stop in and find out how we can help you catch. Get a topo map. They say information is gold. It's also critical to catching fish on the ice. The maps have GPS coordinates on them so you just can't miss. We want you to be successful here at the Mile. Get a map we will MARK IT UP with the hot spots. WE ARE HERE FISHING EVERYDAY AND CAN PUT YOU ON THE FISH

OCTOBER BOAT RENTAL: We will have some boats available but fewer and fewer as the month rolls on. Reservations can be made by calling us at 719-748-0317. Sat and Sundays available for at least the first two weekends. Weekdays depending on staff availability.

PIC # 1: Ira gets his biggest Pike ever at 18lbs. Pitched for three hours with one hit. Got this one on the last cast.

PIC # 2: A fair number of nice ones like these being landed.

TROUT: GOOD: Fall action just getting rolling. Lots of nice fish being caught, shore or boat. Many baits working well. Trollers scoring on Tas Devils, Needlefish, Mack’s Imperial, Arnie’s pop gear/crawler. Flies they like such as black Woolly Bugger, egg patterns and gold bead nymphs working well Shore anglers love the garlic. Scented products do work and not just bait. We like Pautzke Fire Gell especially on our tube jigs. But you can use it on most any lure or bait. It comes in a variety of scents ie Garlic, Crawfish, Anise, Trout and others. We won’t put it on a Marabou as it’s stickiness effects the bou lol. Scent products are illegal at Spinney but not Eleven Mile. Hmmm maybe they really do work to the anglers advantage. Gold Medal Waters are regulated to give the fish an advantage. Nothing wrong with that.

Stop in for the latest report.

KOKANEE SALMON: POOR: You might find some four year olds moving up to the river/ Snagging is no longer allowed at Eleven Mile.

NORTHERN PIKE: VERY GOOD: Action continues in sporadic but strong bites. Lots of anglers head West but there are many big fish all around the lake. West may be best for numbers East may be best for size. You won’t know unless you try. Spoons, sticks, spinner baits and jigs all seem to work at some point. The fish in pic was caught in the North Shore Marina area at sundown.

SPECIAL NOTE: 11 Mile Marina is located at the North Shore in Eleven Mile State Park, Lake George Colorado. A CPW Park Pass is required on all vehicles entering the Park.  Any fees for Guide/Outfitter/Rental services do not include Park fees, CO fishing license or gratuities.

The WEEKLY FISHING REPORT is produced by fishermen for fishermen. We try to get it done every Thursday but some times fishing or life gets in the way. So if its not there on Thursday morning it will show up by Friday. We appreciate all the support and acknowledge that many of you won't miss a week but every now and then we might. Witchers Cove boat ramp closed for season. Water still on in Park. Lots of water foul and birds moving South and stopping by for a short visit. Don’t miss out on the Fall catching action and spectacular scenery. Slips out after this weekend.

OFF SEASON: Labor Day marks the end of the busy Summer season here at the Park. Things slow down during the week but weekends remain very busy through October. The water will quickly clear as night time temps drop and Fall catching will bring lots of great memories. As Fall progresses we will have fewer boats in the water and fewer staff to service those we have, make reservations soon if you plan on coming out. Walk ups are sometimes impossible to do because we don’t have the staff on site so reservations highly advised.

PIC # 2: Pike action from shore. 11 Mile Marina Guide Owen pitching Kastmasters.

PIC # 3: Followed by Trout action out of the boat the next day pitching tubes.

PIC # 4: Right out our backdoor. Pic courtesy Dillion C.

PIC # 5: The one that got away. Pic courtesy Greg A.

TROUT: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: If you get on the right color pattern action is hot. Although your standard colors like pink and green are go to colors sometimes they don’t work so go through the tackle box. Lots of baits and methods working. In the Fall season you don’t need a boat to catch fish as shore action picks up. Kastmasters doing well in general. Stop in for the latest info.

KOKANEE SALMON: POOR TO POORER:

NORTHERN PIKE: VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT: Pike action at Spinney and here continues to be strong. Timing is important and bite times vary. To be sure opportunities are there for really big fish. Lots of baits are working. When they are this aggressive a steel leader may be appropriate. Stop in for the latest update.

EMPLOYMENT: Like every other business always looking for that right person that needs a job. Call for appt.

SORRY WE NO LONGER RENT CANOES, KAYAKS OR SUPS

CURRENT CONDITIONS: A few nighttime thunder storms keeping things green. Weed growth on the lake accelerating. Some pelicans are getting aggressive, following boats and swooping in to steal fish on your line. Our best guess is people are feeding the birds from their boats while cleaning fish on the lake. We have seen this happen as large crowds of pelicans and seagulls swarm around the boat of the offending party. Now they are associating boats with a meal.even if they have to grab it from your line. Please don’t feed the wildlife.

LAKE OPEN TO BOATING: Half hour before sunrise to half hour after.

USED EQUIPMENT FOR SALE Canoes, Kayaks and SUPS from our rental fleet. Variety of styles and prices to choose from. We have sold about half of what we want to sell. Come check them out Old Towns and Mad River 15hp Yamaha four stroke long shaft motor. Good condition $999.00 OBO

PIC # 1: Great day on the lake! pic courtesy d.isham

PIC # 2: Andrew, Conner and Uncle Doug have a great time with Larry/11Mile Marina.

TROUT: GOOD: Boaters are seeing good action around the lake. Lead core trolling rigs are hot. Come in and lets us show you our selection ready to fish. Bite times vary and each day may take an adjustment. Rapala’s still doing well. They are usually a strong Spring bait but they continue to catch nice fish. Kastmasters with reflecting tape gold, chrome or red have performed well. Sundown into dark best from shore. Lots of baits effective. Many like night crawler and tiny white mallow.

KOKANEE SALMON: POOR: Not even seeing one of two here or there. Mostly opportunities lost as when you do get one on they don’t quit fighting and always seem to get off. Pink and Chartreuse are good colors. Tas Devils, Kokanee Kustoms, Macks wedding rings and pink Needlefish are good bets that catch Trout while your hoping for a salmon.

NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR TO GOOD: Starting to see more fish being landed mostly smaller but a few decent ones here and there. Try trolling big sticks in 15 feet of water. Also big white or chartreuse tube jigs. Bill’s Spinner Baits in black/blue and brown/orange doing well only available here or Valley Country Tackle. Spinney reports still seeing bigger fish being caught.

TROUT:VERY GOOD::The hot Trout action continues. Lots of fish caught on many different baits and methods. Trolling has been very productive. Tas Devils, Rapala’s, Kastmasters. Mack’s wedding rings and everything in between. Some catch bigger fish than others. Deeper tends to score bigger fish. Bite times vary but we are catching them very consistently throughout the day.

KOKANEE SALMON: POOR: Pretty much the same report. There are anglers catching one here one there. Mostly from North Shore to points East around Duck Island and Deer Island. Most are using Dodgers and Sling Blades with a variety of offereings like Mack’s Wedding Rings, Wiggle Hoochies and Squids tipped with corn or Gulp Maggot. Look to Kokanee Kustoms and Pro Troll Kokanee Killer. We have had some opportunities but lost them at the boat on Macks Imperial spoon in red trolled clean all by itself on a lead core out five colors. No blades no corn no maggots.

NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR: Action is picking up ever so slightly. Smaller fish the order of the day with large ones seen prowling the shallows. Big sticks, large spoon and large tube jigs are a good bet. They like fire tiger color patterns.

PIC # 1: Marina Guide trip with great catching! It was good right before a storm moved in, took a small break and then it was really great after. Actually hit the water while it was still lightly raining and caught the fish in the pic in less than 45 minutes.

PIC # 2: Another Marina Guide trip with a Kokanee in the mix. They released at least five fish over 18 inches. Kept a couple under 16 and released the rest. We caught fish non stop for four hours.

PIC # 3: An early Fathers Day treat for these two going catching with Larry

PIC # 4: A decent number of Browns like this one being caught this Spring. This likely indicates a successful spawn a few years ago. Browns have not been stocked at Eleven Mile in many many years so the ones you catch here are truly “Eleven Mile” Browns! This one was released.

PIC # 5: Salmon Man. pic courtesy ctKohne

TROUT:EXCELLENT:: Lots of big fish being caught at least by our Guides. If you wanted a great catching experience now would be the time to book a trip. Some June dates still available The bite is on and we are really doing extremely well. Everyday is different but all of our trips have scored big fish in the last two weeks. Conditions seem to be in a holding pattern with cool nights and mild to cool days keeping the bite strong. Lots of baits doing well stop in for the latest info on what bait is hot!

KOKANEE SALMON:FAIR TO POOR: Pretty much the same report. We have had some opportunities but lost them at the boat on Macks Imperial spoon in red trolled clean all by itself on a lead core out five colors. No blades no corn no maggots.

NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR TO POOR: The water is still a might chilly and we hope when it gets into the upper 50’s we will see action improve. But for the most part it has been challenging with smaller fish hitting and bigger ones playing it safe. Try big Rapala’s specially the F18 in Pike Pattern trolled in 15 feet of water.

CURRENT CONDITIONS: Nice and green NO fire bans. All Park facilities are open. Although the hatch has been on it has been unusually cool and wet and keeping them down. Last weekend saw a another weather report with rain in it that kept the crowds at bay but they missed out as usual since it barely sprinkled and the catching was awesome. People try to cancel a boat rental the day before a reservation based on a weather report and we tell them you can cancel four days before for no reason full refund less $25 cancel fee but cancel on a weather report day before no refund. If we do not put you out because of weather we will give you 100% money back. Everyone that showed up this past weekend got on the water and got in all of their time. PIC # 1: It’s about the catching!

PIC # 2: Five pounder Witchers Cove from shore…Power Bait pic courtesy E. Vigil

PIC # 3: It’s about the catching and memories !!

PIC # 4: They have been doing a Father/Son annual Eleven Mile fishing trip every year for 17 years out of a Marina rental and certainly know how to catch them here

PIC # 5: Big Salmon on Macks Wiggle Hootchie

TROUT: GOOD TO VERY GOOD:: Lots of fish being caught. People are complaining that they caught 25, 35, 45 fish but all the same size. Many fish from Winter stocking are running 12 to 14 inches but are chunky and spunky making for a fun time. It’s a numbers game keep at it and catch a big one. If you are boating and have a down rigger the bigger fish seem to have moved to deeper water. We have been trolling and working our down riggers five to ten feet off the bottom in 35 to 55 feet of water with a variety of offerings with jointed Rapala’s doing the best. Most of the fish we catch trolling deeper are substantially bigger then the stockers, ranging 18” to 21”. If you are working lead core you should be at least five colors out in deeper water. Lots of different baits are working but some clearly catch bigger fish then others. Guess that’s why we have tackle boxes. Shore anglers can do well like the young angler above in Pic #2 on Power Bait, Night Crawlers and Marshmallows. Kastmasters do well from shore as well as jigs and flies.

KOKANEE SALMON:FAIR TO POOR: There are still folks catching one here one there.

TROUT: GOOD: Anglers in boats are seeing very good results trolling, pitching, working flies and drifting bait. As the water warms activity will continue to improve. Rapala’s are an early Spring bait and are always good here and are yielding big fish. We like the jointed ones but many patterns are effective Trolling has really picked up with many offerings doing well. Rainbow Pop Gear trailing with a crawler. Tequila Sunrise #5 and Pink Panther #55 in 13 gram on a lead core rig doing great. Arnies Dynamac Trolling Spoon in red, orange or chartreuse depending on the time of the day. Lead core presentations have done really well. Stop in we will show you what we mean. Rapala’s doing really well worked on a down rigger in deeper water.

KOKANEE SALMON:FAIR: Anglers hunting salmon are starting to see improved action although still far from what we look forward to.. Fish like the big one in pic above have been caught by others but generally just one or two and stories of the ones that got away. Look to deeper water with fish suspended 25 to 40 feet down. Sling Blades and Dodgers on lead core trailed by a variety of Macks offerings as well as Kokanee Kustoms tipped with one kernal of corn or Berkley Maggots. Also the Pro Troll Kokanee Killer in pink or red have also seen some action. Those big ones fight like no other and lots of fun.

NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR:: Staring to see some fish. The fish we have caught have been small. Action is improving still looking for warmer water.

PIC # 1: Came into Marina for guidance. Spent some money caught a big fish! pic courtesy A.Johnson

PIC # 2: Nice Male Cuttbow caught and released

PIC # 3: Nice Brown caught and released

TROUT: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: April fishing conditions have been challenging with wind and cold temps. The next couple of weeks should see great opportunities for big fish all around the lake. Since the big Cuttbows and Rainbows are in spawn mode they are in very close to shore. Look to sandy and rocky bottoms. You can observe spawn holes in the sand from fish activity. They move in and out as the day progresses. Clearly early morning and late afternoon seem to be the best. Many baits work but selectively in that you need to change up from time to time. If you are fishing bait you’re sitting in wait. If you are working lures, jigs and flies we like the move around method. Try a spot try another after a bit if no fish move in. Take ten cast then ten paces. Lots of fish moving the shoreline at North Shore Marina areas. But you will find the same activity all around the lake if the bottom conditions are sandy or rocky. Successful baits include tube jigs, jointed Rapala, Kastmasters, Fly and bubble or fly rod. San Juan worms, Woolly Buggers and scuds. A good time of year to practice catch and release as most are in spawn mode. Browns and Cutthroats spawn in the Fall but they do come in to eat the eggs.

TROUT: GOOD: This is the time of the season to fish shallow for big fish. Electronics doesn’t do much good in 4 feet of water. Look for sandy bottom. North Shore in particular is good but this approach should work most anywhere on the lake. Bigger fish are set to spawn and are cruising under the ice to make spawn beds. Lots of stockers are cruising in and out which is a good thing as big Trout and Pike are also on the prowl trapping smaller fish in ice capped shallows. Pink jigs like the Eagle Claw Paddle Bug and 11 Mile Marina Krystal Lazer have been very effective. Bait is also very effective in the shallows. Nightcrawler, salmon eggs and spawn sack laying on the bottom. They will suck them in, better be quick on the hook set.

KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR: The fish are there but the biting is not. Many have caught some but no one is reporting anything more than a few here and there. They are finicky fish to be sure. Although its better to see fish than not it sure is frustrating when fish can be under you for significant time and chase your jigs up and down only to reject. Go through the box there seems to be no rime or reason for what they may hit. Timing is everything and no set pattern seems to be working.

NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR: There are big ones cruising the shallows in search of easy pickings. Some have shown interest but many are or so careful. Noise will scare them away. It’s better to leave your bait dead in the water rather than move or jig it once they come in on you. Scaring them away is way easier than you think. If they want it they will take it a some point. Leave it be have patience deep breathing.

11 MILE MARINA WEEKLY FISHING REPORT 01.26.23

“ITS ABOUT THE CATCHING”

STORE HOURS: SATURDAY/SUNDAY 7:00AM TO 4:00PM

MONDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY 8:00AM - 4:00PM (Closed Tuesday & Wed unless we’re here or by reservation) We will take Guide reservations for any date

CURRENT CONDITIONS: Ice thickness ranging from 13” to 18”. Recent media reports about pressure ridges and people falling through have given some people the thought that the ice is dangerous. First of all we always like to say “there is no such thing as safe ice”. All frozen bodies of water need to be dealt with a serious amount of caution. Ice with no snow and a person with no cleats can fall and crack their head. Pressure ridges are natural formations with essentially two continents of ice pushing against each other as the ice expands. An active pressure ridge in early Winter is generally a good sign that the ice is getting thicker. There is never a good time to cross a pressure ridge and for absolute safety should be avoided. BUT in keeping with “why did the chicken cross the road..to get to the other side” a number of anglers in search of Kokanee on the East end believed they needed to get to the other side of the ridge to get to “the spot”. A number of anglers experienced what its like to go through the ice. Luckily all survived. Going on a frozen lake is like going back-country skiing. GO PREPARED. Safety gear includes rope, ice picks around your neck, throw-able flotation device, SPD, change of clothes. Try not to go alone.

It’s been cold like -20. Ice is firm and ready to fish. New snow about an inch. Roads are plowed with some snow packed and icy spots. Fresh snow makes for more work dragging your stuff out.

A lot more folks have been using our ice rink this year and we have a few odds and ends in case you forget a puck or two, break a stick need some tape or laces etc. WE HAVE HOT CHOCOLATE TOO1

PIC # 1: Niko told his parents he had a dream that he had caught a big Pike and the next week he did. As the Blondie songs says “Dreaming is free” AND they come true some times. 15 lbs 38” Caught on the 21st. Congratulations Niko. Pic courtesy J. Holcomb

PIC # 2: Stella does it again with an even bigger better salmon. Caught on the 22nd Pic courtesy S. Solomon

PIC # 3: With the snow finally arriving we will do our best to keep the ice rink area plowed and ready to skate.

TROUT: GOOD: Action is still decent with early and mid morning the best. Look to 12 to 20 feet of water and often right on the bottom. Plenty of Trout have been caught by the salmon anglers in their attempts to catch Koke limits. Often times the bigger Trout are cruising slowly just below the ice not more than a foot or two. Set a dead stick with a small jigs like a Tiny Tot or a small crappie tube and just let it sit.

KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR TO GOOD: Fish being caught but bite is sporadic. When it happens its hot hot hot. Try spoons like Kastmaster, Swedish Pimple and Krocodile. Tip it with something such a meal or wax worm or Gulp Maggot. Work your spoon top to bottom they can come in quickly and not always where your pop gear may be set. Put yourself close to your jigging machine like six to 10 feet if you have one. We were going to try and make some but the demand was to significant and getting the parts we wanted continued to be challenging. You can do it. If you don’t have one make one they definitely help.

NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR: They just weren’t biting contest day but what a difference a week makes. Niko proved that the big ones will bite. Right place right bait right time right dream and lots of patience. Try mid morning to mid afternoon. Waterdogs and suckers continue to catch fish.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

STORE HOURS: NOVEMBER SATURDAY/SUNDAY 8:00AM TO 4:00PM

STARTING DECEMBER 1: MONDAY - FRIDAY 8:00AM TO 4:00PM SATURDAY - SUNDAY 7:00AM TO 4:00PM

We will be open November 25, 26 and 27th come out for a visit 8:00AM to 4:00PM

FRIDAY IS CO BREATHE FREE DAY ALL STATE PARKS FREE ADMISSION

ICE REPORT: As of 11.28.22 Lake is 70% ice capped. Strong winds out of the West have done significant damage to the ice cap. Open water from west side of Goose Island all the way past North Shore. All the ice from Marina area to Howbert is gone. West side by Cross Creek has not shown open water but given the wind situation things could change for the worse. We will post conditions as they develop. EXTREME caution advised if you are heading out. It’s an early ice on we are not in a hurry next week is fine with us. Temps have not been conducive to building mass add the wind and its not pretty. It’s suppose to get cold again for a couple days but if the wind doesn’t calm down ice can’t form. Early ice makes sounds that curdle the blood of many new to ice fishing and sends a chill down the spine of even the most experienced. Can you say Ice Quake! Smart early ice adventurers bring some rope, Type 4 throw-able, SPD and a PFD vest wouldn’t hurt unless you are wearing coat and bibs with flotation technology. BE SAFE

HOT BLACK FRIDAY SPECIAL: Our BLACK FRIDAY SPECIAL is rent a boat for 2023 at 2022 pricing and get HALF OFF. Choose a date or don’t and make it later but no guarantees for any specific date and time if you make it later. Friday Saturday Sunday ONLY!! In Store Or Over The Phone ONLY!! SORRY NO ONLINE. You can also e-mail us at elevenmile@hotmail.com and we will put you in the que and call you back. Some restrictions apply.

WATERDOGS: Waterdogs have been a hot bait for PIKE through the ice. We have made predictions before regarding supply issues on certain products as things have been challenging the last two years. We don’t see good news on waterdogs moving forward. Drought conditions in critical areas and early freeze will more than likely restrict supply overall. We just got some in and anticipate there being a supply in the early part of the season. But when they’re gone the right size will be near impossible to get. Bring your bait bucket and put them up..they last a long time.

CURRENT CONDITIONS: Dry conditions, dusting of new snow on the ground. Open water around North Shore including the little boat cove which is hard to believe as it usually goes first. Weather report for weekend looks pretty good. It has been cold with most morning temps at zero and single digits although last night was mild at 19.. It has been more mild during the day the last few days. If there is ice and open water there are usually Bald Eagles fishing the edges..quite a site. Bring your binocs if you travel this way this weekend could be great Eagle viewing as we do not see the open water freezing all the way over the next few days

Weather Station: Although we got our on site live weather station working as seen below we have had technical issues with the camera feed and still have not solved the problem.

ELEVEN MILE STATE PARK IS LOCATED IN THE SOUTH PARK NATIONAL HERITAGE AREA

WATER FLOW: 112 CFS IN 109 CFS OUT

SPINNEY MOUNTAIN STATE PARK: Closed for the Season. As those of you that fished Spinney toward the end you saw great action and unprecedented drops in water level. You could watch it going down as you fished sometimes. At above flows and little coming in its still dropping

PIC # 1: 12.27.22

PIC # 2: Kastmasters have been one of the most effective lures year in and year out here at Eleven Mile and Spinney. According to ACME TACKLE we are #1 in retail sales in the USA. We carry a large selection more than other stores. This Winter we also have the RatteMaster which has been redesigned, The D-Chain which was very effective last year, the BaitFish patterns and the new last year DR which stands for Drop Rate. This lure packs a heavy punch in a small profile with a high density tungsten body resulting in 2x the drop rate. New color patterns all have UV Glow paint. The new Wonderbread color pattern looks like it will be a hot one. Its worth checking out our fantastic selection they are just awesome in the Winter!

PIC # 3: We have a great selection of St. Croix ice fishing rods and combo’s “Greatest Rods on Earth”

PIC # 4: Points West toward Stoll Mountain

PIC # 5: Happy Thanksgiving. Caught 11.23.22/ 3:30 PM Lbc

TROUT: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: The last few days from shore have been hot at certain times mostly late afternoon and sundown. Limited areas you can fish but North Shore and Coyote Ridge still have open water in some shoreline areas. We suspect they will still be open the next few days. The bites occur sporadically but they are strong when they occur. We have been jigging although flies, lures and bait can all catch.

PIC # 1: Brian comes annually with his son and hit it hard for a few days. They caught some nice fish on their visit.

PIC # 2: How could I forget. Made a misstatement last week. This was the biggest Trout weighed in at Marina this year. REMEMBER late May wind a howling from shore 14.78lbs. What a catch!!

PIC # 3: They had a great day last weekend. Nice Brown in the bunch.

PIC # 4: From Shore at Spinney couple days ago

TROUT: FAIR TO GOOD: As the water temperature drops below 50 things tend to slow up a bit. But the big fish are definitely hitting. Shore action before the lake freezes takes proper warm clothing but you can catch some really big fish.

KOKANEE SALMON: POOR:: Bite has evaporated for us. The river has plenty of four year olds swimming up stream. Fun to catch.

NORTHERN PIKE: GOOD: More little fish are showing up but still seeing a good number in the 26” to 33” size. Stick baits, spoons and jigs have all done well. Don’t just look West as we have done well in Witchers Cove area and East Bay. Bite times vary with mid morning and mid to late afternoon pretty consistent. Wind is your catching friend if its not to strong. The Pike bite was steady and strong from late Summer through now.

PIC # 2: This trophy caught on Monday deserves another pic. Headed to the taxidermist.

TROUT: FAIR TO GOOD: The hot bite in the beginning of the month has cooled a bit. Trolling and pitching still catching fish but some effort and numerous change ups to find the right color of the day or size of the lure may be required. Mid morning has been good. Gunker in above pic caught at 11:00AM. Tube and marabou jigs producing nice size Cuttbows. Trolling lead core or down rigger with Tas Devils or Needlefish successful in addition to green rainbow pop gear trailing a crawler. BREAK WATER IMPROVEMENT PLAN: No install this Fall gee go figure. Hopefully in the Spring.

CURRENT CONDITIONS: Witchers Cove Boat Ramp closed for season. Park showers closed for season. No fire ban we still have had some rain here and there. For those that feared the weather report fo last Saturday and changed their plans to come up know that it was a great fishing weather day. A little cool no real wind and partly sunny partly cloudy.

We have a great selection of Tasmanian Devils because an earlier in the season order just showed up. Hard to find patterns or hard to find in general may be hanging on our wall.

TASMANIANS TASMANIANS TASMANIANS HOT catching patterns #56, #55, #125, #Y82, others with pink We also have 4 packs like getting one for free

PIC # 1: Not caught on Saturday. 15.2 lbs 38.5 inches

PIC # 2: Sunday, Not caught on Saturday. She didn’t care her biggest Pike ever.

PIC # 3: Caught on Saturday weighed in at 14lbs won $500.00 in the FHNB Fundraiser Funraiser

PIC # 4: Caught on Saturday fishing for Pike.

TROUT: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: Lots of action off the boats. Weeds are dissipating. Tube jigs are coming on strong color changes regularly but white and pink pearl pepper have been good. Tasmanian Devils are very effective. FT pattern has been hot lately as well as anything with Pink. Bite times vary with an early and mid morning bite being the best although we have also done well later in the day. Shore action best early and sundown.

KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR:: A decent number of fish caught. No limits but mostly four year olds. Pink Tasmanian long lined so that means they are not deep. From Duck Island to Rocking Chair.

NORTHERN PIKE: VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT: REPEAT Strong bite continues. Lots of different baits are working. X Rap and Husky Jerk Rapala in Clown pattern, Fire Tiger and bright colors seem to be best. BILL’S SPINNER BAITS doing well even on a troll (sold here almost exclusively) Tube jigs very productive. You might get bit off from time to time but they are cheap enough and more often than not you will lip them and get them in. Steel leader doesn’t hurt when using the pricey stick baits.

CRAWFISH: VERY GOOD: It’s still prime time. Fishing license required no limit. Boil em up. We have some great traps for sale. The ones we use for maximum production. It’s a Cajun thing

11 MILE MARINA WEEKLY FISHING REPORT 08.25.22

“ITS ABOUT THE CATCHING”

MARINA STORE HOURS: EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1 SAT 7:00AM - 7:00PM SUNDAY 7:00AM - 6:00PM MON - THURS 8:00AM - 5:00PM FRIDAY 8:00AM to 6:00PM

BREAK WATER IMPROVEMENT PLAN: We have been informed that the State plans a new and significant install to replace the current and failing Wave Eater system. The current barrel system is at least 20 years old and not nearly what it use to be. The new system by Pacific Netting from WA may be if it works as advertised a true game changer for Eleven Mile. We were also informed work will begin around the last week of September. Boat ramp will remain open.

CURRENT CONDITIONS: Fleeting Fall conditions last week with cooler temps and regular rain made for very pleasant days and turned the fish bite on. Some of the best action in August we have seen.

Hailed pretty hard one day. When the sun is out it gets hot fast. Last week the water temp bounced from 68 down to 64 and now back up to 67. Weeds galore, water clarity fair as Summer algae blooms occur. This is not “blue” algae. Its regular nature that happens annually about this time.

Due to staff shortage the CPW main office here at the Park is closed Wednesday, Thursday and only open half day on Friday. This puts pressure on us as many frustrated folks think we can help them with camping and Park issues. We are sorry but we are not involved in Park matters please don’t take your frustrations out on our staff. We do have a great staff that will help if possible. Make sure you have your fishing license in advance. Bring $9.00 for your daily pass if you need one. Apologies but we simply cannot make change for everyone that needs it for Park Passes and showers. When the Park office is closed we are not able to drop everything we may be doing and do a fishing license on demand. Patience is a virtue. Breathe

MOVING FORWARD: We normally were open everyday in September. It is likely we will be closing one if not two days per week due to staff shortage probably Tuesday or Wednesday. No decision yet but we have currently turned off online reservations for weekdays in September. Please call for boat and guide reservations for any dates after that. Updates posted as needed.

NO PIKE TOURNAMENT: We missed the last two years Covid related. This year we simply will not have the staff to pull it off. It takes a lot of prep, planning and work to get it done and it’s just not in the cards this year. However we are not pleased that Fishing Has No Boundaries FHNB loses one of their biggest fundraisers again this year SO we will host a fundraiser on their behalf on Saturday September 10. They will be here for a big BBQ and Crawfish Boil. We will have a live band and other surprises. We will give away $500.00 to the heaviest Northern Pike weighed in that day. No entry fee Spinney or Eleven Mile. Weigh in will be done in private and weights will not be disclosed until the end. In order to weigh in a fish you will need to make a donation to FHNB. Stay tuned for more details. This is not a contest it is a fundraiser for FHNB who take disabled kids and adults fishing. This years event will be held at Pueblo State Park on September 17.

TASMANIANS TASMANIANS TASMANIANS HOT catching patterns #56, #55, #125, #Y82, others with pink We also have 4 packs like getting one for free

PIC # 1: Wow that’s a nice one!!

PIC # 2: Not quite as big but another nice one

PIC # 3: We call this the “Pike Lover Grip”. Just grab them in the eyes and they go totally limp. Considering what those teeth can do to your hand…pic courtesy jl

PIC # 4: And the Trout bite was on too!! pic courtesy jl

PIC # 5: Good time had by all

TROUT: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: That dip in water temp just made the fish go crazy. No guarantee that strong bite will continue but you won’t know if you don’t try. Things slowed up a bit as the water warmed back up. Lots of baits working. Bigger fish caught on tube jigs. We have a great selection of high quality tubes made Dry Creek Outfitters. Trolling made challenging by weeds. Shore action sporadic.

KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR TO POOR:: A bit of a bite is back on. Lead core or down riggers almost a must. North Shore to Buoy Line has seen action. Tasmanian Devils the most productive for us. Pink is good but Brown Trout also has been good. One in pic above caught about 9:00AM. Others have been caught through out the day with sporadic bites. Some days the bite is hot some days its cold cold. That’s when its called fishing not catching

NORTHERN PIKE: VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT: Started last Thursday as the weather caused a dramatic drop in water temp over the course of the weekend. Lots of nice fish caught through out the day. Shallow water of 5 feet all the way to 20 feet saw productive times. Tube jigs, Husky Jerks, Kastmasters, Daredevils and many more baits were working. Mostly pitching and working certain spots. Too many weeds to troll shallow. Drift and pitch or anchor down and work your spot. Where you may ask. Stop in we will show you on the map.

CRAWFISH: VERY GOOD: It’s prime time. Fishing license required no limit. Boil em up. We have some great traps for sale. The ones we use for maximum production. It’s a Cajun thing

SUMMER BOAT RENTAL/RESERVATIONS: As we move into Summer short staffed like every other business it is not out of the realm of possibility that we are no different than the airlines. We sell a reservation and then don’t have the crew and cancel because we have no choice. We certainly hope it doesn’t come to that but when you are short staffed already and some one pulls a no show no call it becomes impossible to put certain numbers of boats on the water. We must staff for all safety contingencies. So the reservation does not guarantee the boat but it does guarantee the boat if we are properly staffed. Crossing our fingers.

WE ARE HERE FISHING EVERYDAY AND CAN PUT YOU ON THE FISH.

PIC # 1: First time at Eleven Mile and landed a fish of a lifetime.. Caught on Monday at North Shore casting from the rocks. Windy so what! We’ll take the wind any day if we can catch a fish like that. Monster Brown 30” length 20” girth 14.8lbs

PIC # 2: Visiting from Phoenix on a father/son fishing trip to Colorado. Two firsts here. Aidan (right) catches his first salmon ever and biggest Trout ever. Memories made at the Mile on an 11 Mile Marina Guide trip.

PIC # 3: We have what you need and then some.

TROUT: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: Spring action continues with catching good from shore and boat. Many from Winter stocking but are fun to catch and ready to eat. 11 to 13 inches. Sometimes its non stop bites. Lots of bigger Cuttbows and Browns being caught ranging from 17 to 20 plus inches. Fish seems to be deep and shallow depending on time of day. Many baits are working. Start with your favorite and if no luck start moving through the tackle box. Jointed Rapala J-7 in gold or RT, always a Kastmaster, Green Rainbow Cowbells if you like them

KOKANEE SALMON: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: Well we are all in a Kokanee tizzy. Catching has been fun and better than many previous years for this time of the season particularly for folks who might not normally catch salmon. Generally a finicky fish Winter or Summer many many different baits have worked. Caught one on a jointed Rapala not something you would put on and say “I’m going salmon fishing”. We have caught and spoke to anglers who have landed them West in the middle out from Stoll. An orange Flatfish come on man can you believe a fisherman…well one old timer told us he was catching on them. The point is we have used many different baits and scored Kokes. Most successful have been Tas Devils, Arnies Dynamac, Wedding Rings and a variety of Mack’s tackle. Sling blades or dodgers if you like. Haven’t heard from the pop gear crowd but we suspect they are also catching them. Stop in for latest info and hot bait.

We like scent products on our presentation. We have number of ones we are trying with success. Pro Cure and Pautzke Firegel seem to work the best.

NORTHERN PIKE: GOOD: Some nice ones being reported caught around North Shore to Stoll and Sucker Cove to Lazy Boy. Howbert to Witchers hasn’t been too bad either. Troll big sticks in 10 feet of water near shoreline areas. They like the Pike patterns, Perch and Firetiger.

MARINA STORE OFF SEASON HOURS: SAT AND SUN 7:00AM - 4:30PM Weekdays hours may vary based on staff availability. HIGH SEASON HOURS BEGIN MAY 1

CURRENT CONDITIONS: The recent cold snap has kept the ice firm and thick. Look for to up to 24 inches or more in some places. Minimal snow out of last storms but as snow melts around the lake ice in close will melt sooner. Spring ice conditions call for “early on early off” but we are still in full on Winter ice conditions. Things can change dramatically based on weather but just because it is 70 degrees on the front range does not mean we immediately have open water. Stay clear of rock edges as ice gets weak as rocks absorb sun energy.

PIC # 1: This 18.5lbs Northern caught during Marina March Madness contest. This was the first fish the contestant ever caught ice fishing. Caught on sucker meat on a Northland Quick Strike rig put down just a few feet below the ice.

PIC # 2: This great Marina March Madness Trout caught in shallow water very close to Marina.

PIC # 3: Marina March Madness contestant with a nice one right behind the store!

PIC # 4: Team # 29 Cross/Rice had no significant points going into Saturdays event and just tore it up going on to win the Eagle Claw Shappell Colorado Classic Championship EDA Division. Contest details posted soon.

PIC # 5: You can only find these at the 11 Mile Marina Store and maybe something like them at Valley Country Tackle in Aurora. Say hi to Louise.

TROUT: FAIR TO GOOD: Action happening early through late morning. Look to shallow water sandy bottom 5 feet or less and a bait presentation like salmon or trout eggs, nightcrawlers or Berkley Power Bait or Pautzke Firebait. The larger fish are in spawning under the ice. A small Tiny Tot with half of meal worm has also worked well. Occasional nice Trout also to be had when hunting Kokanee.

KOKANEE SALMON: GOOD TO EXCELLENT: Yes still happening!! The epic bite continues. At this point you can catch them with out a jigging machine but electronics is really a must. You can jig Kastmaster and Swedish Pimples and bring them in. They wont stick around like they would if you had a jigging machine but you can bring them back with vigorous jigging action. There are periods of massive frustration and rejection followed by intense bites. Switch up if rejected. Whats the point in keeping a rejected bait on. When they won’t hit the spoon try a dead stick crappie jig or paddle bug. Colors matter but you have to figure the pattern out. Duck Deer Island still good as well as North Shore. Contest saw even a salmon wining money.

NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR TO GOOD: Good luck finding a waterdog. Success is being had by those that use the right size sucker with the proper presentation. It’s all about presentation and patience. Look to 10 feet of water or less. We have the proper suckers and will show you how to rig them. Other baits include large tube jigs in white or chartreuse, One oz Kastmasters with a buck-tail and piece of sucker or an accidental trout bait..you just never know. Stoll and Howbert have been good of late. Mid morning through mid afternoon. Trophies available to be caught get yours now.
